Not Man Apart – Physical Theatre Ensemble [www.notmanapart.com], which was started in Seattle in 2000. Since then, our award-winning shows have premiered in Los Angeles, Monterey and New York, NY. Not Man Apart makes kinetic storytelling on stage through dynamic movement, sound, and imagery, and has performed internationally including being the Top Pick of 2008 in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Ranked by Backstage in 2014 as one of the “13 most innovative physical theater companies in the world,” Not Man Apart’s Mission is to generate innovative works of multidisciplinary movement theater while contributing educational and transformative experiences. We have been delivering that for 26 years in the form of live stage productions, robust arts outreach programs, and movement-performance festivals.
Not Man Apart is best known for our adaptations of classics, both plays and literature (Shakespeare, Milton, Seneca). NMA also produces original scripts from modern playwrights like Eduardo Machado, Aaron Hendry, and John Farmanesh-Bocca. NMA is committed to the educational possibilities of the arts and, to that end, we present historical works with a modern twist, told in our own visceral theater style. We desire to expose our audiences to the richness of history while empowering free thinking and original thought. Our outreach and festival programs present these concepts in the form of classes, workshops, and interactive presentations. We feel that it is important to train and empower the next generation of artists as well as stay current and relevant in our own training and development.
