OAKEY is a multidisciplinary artist based on Kaurna Yerta (Adelaide, South Australia). Her practice encompasses sculpture, site-specific installations, performance, video, and sound. Working out of Central Studios, she creates nuanced responses to both urban and natural environments using a diverse range of materials.
Drawing from her immersive experiences in varied natural settings, from the Amazon to Timbuktu, OAKEY has developed a profound fascination with the interconnectedness of the living world and our relationship to it. Her creative process delves into the realms of unseen forces, networks, and spaces, operating on both a cellular and cosmic level. Her work particularly focuses on exploring consciousness, hidden energies, and the healing power of plants and nature, while also incorporating her keen interest in science, geometry, and architecture.
Since completing her Bachelor of Creative Arts degree with first-class honours in 2019, OAKEY has been awarded studio residencies at ACE and George St Studios, and has received a Guildhouse Catapult mentorship with Catherine Truman, as well as a glassblowing mentorship at the JamFactory.
In 2022, OAKEY's ephemeral artwork Reverence was awarded first prize at the Heysen Sculpture Biennial and was featured in Artlink magazine. In 2024 OAKEY had a solo exhibition at Hahndorf Academy as part of Adelaide Fringe, and has had five exhibitions this SALA. She is a finalist in both The Advertiser Contemporary Art Award and The City of Adelaide Award also for SALA. Beyond her artistic practice, OAKEY serves as the Lead Installer at ACE and contributes to the installation teams at the JamFactory and other institutions.
