We are a 501c3 history enrichment program offering speaker programs based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), the Texas state standards. The name One Southlake is based on the U.S. motto, E pluribus unum, “out of many, one." While we are from nearly 40 different countries, we are all Americans.
Our goal is to educate students on what it is like NOT to grow up in the United States through the first-person accounts of people who have immigrated here. We hope to create a deeper appreciation of America through the eyes of people who did not grow up with the liberties and opportunities many of us take for granted. Our speakers all live in the North Texas area, and immigrate to the United States for a myriad of reasons, ranging from religious persecution to escaping communism and genocide. Some simply seek greater economic opportunities. We explore these topics through our various speaker offerings. Learn more about our programs.
