The Play It Strange charitable trust was established in 2003, with a goal of promoting and inspiring songwriting for NZ secondary school students.
We run programmes and competitions for young kiwis to write original songs, record and perform them. The trust provides youth nationwide with a platform for expressing themselves through songwriting.
In our 20 years of operation, 5,100 songs have been written and entered in its songwriting competitions, and the trust has provided 750 recording sessions for songs written by 900 young songwriters, providing each of them with a studio recording experience. A strategy has been developed to guide the work of the trust over the next 10 years, building on the learning and experiences from the first 20 years of operation, and with a tightened focus for our future.
