My name is Roy Golingan (he/him), aka Purple Yamz. I am a multidisciplinary DJ, event producer, educator, artist, and healer. I craft immersive experiences through synesthetic audiovisual performances and meticulously curated/themed activities inspired by high fantasy genres & culturally rooted imaginations.
I was born and raised in Davao City, Philippines, a rich tapestry of various Mindanao tribes across the southern islands. Understanding the indigenous influences throughout my island aligned me with the collective liberation of oppressed communities worldwide, which is why I aim to curate events that could become crossroads for decolonized art, mutual aid communities, and healing through transcendent musical experiences.
Purple Yamz is how I channel these audiovisual DJ projects. My music selection is rooted in the foundations of House music itself. I believe the pioneers who activated the underground dancefloors of Chicago opened these portals towards soulful liberation. However, as a dancer myself, I feel that these modern rhythms and grooves are echoes of our global ancestral connections. Diasporic Portals aims to weave together the sonic threads & tribal rhythms that speak to a primal energy that we can all attune to, regardless of the differences in our ancestries.
