The Quorn Nature Festival Week event embraces the 2026 theme of SEED by bringing together children, families, and the wider community through shared experiences that celebrate growth, connection, resilience, and the quiet possibility of change. Held across the School and Community Library and school garden, the event is designed to nurture intergenerational learning while encouraging participants to “seed” ideas, relationships, creativity, and care for the environment.
The program begins with a community Story Time session for young children and their families, where participants create grass heads together. This hands-on activity encourages creativity and introduces the idea that growth begins with small acts of patience and care. Foundation to Year 2 students will then participate in a multigenerational gardening session alongside parents and grandparents, propagating plants for the school garden and learning how knowledge and traditions can be passed from one generation to another.
Year 5 and 6 students will explore “Seeds of Delight” through cooking activities using herbs, spinach, and seeds grown in the garden. This activity highlights sustainability, healthy living, and the connection between growing and sharing food within a community. Year 3 and 4 students will investigate the hidden beauty of nature by taking close-up photographs of plants and seeds in the school garden. Their images will contribute to a collaborative collage project, while community members decorate fabric panels inspired by the many interpretations of the SEED theme, including Seeds of Hope, Seeds of Change, and Seeds from the Past.
Secondary students, supported by community volunteers, will plant native trees linking the school garden to the nature playground. This activity represents “Seeding the Future” by creating a lasting environmental legacy while strengthening community ownership of shared spaces.
