PURPOSE
The aim of the RAAF Association is to foster the spirit of friendship formed on Service and to perpetuate the
honour and ideals of the Royal Australian Air Force and designated services and to commemorate the service of the
fallen.
HISTORY
The Royal Australian Air Force Association was founded in 1920 as the Australian Flying Corps Association. Shortly
after the formation of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in 1921 it changed its name to include 'Air
Force Association' and in the late 1980s the current name was adopted. There is a Division of the RAAF
Association in each State of Australia.
The Tasmania Division was formed in 1944 and initially was one state-wide group of members. In the early 1950s
Branches began to be formed in Hobart, Launceston, the West Coast and the North West, with a WAAF Branch formed
in the late 1950s. Regrettably, the WAAAF and West Coast Branches have subsequently closed down due to ageing
and diminished membership.
