Born and raised in North Carolina, Rare of Breed went from the streets of Charlotte to the back roads and tobacco fields of Stella, NC. Placed in foster care at age 8, a therapist gave him a notebook and encouraged him to write his thoughts in order to release his feelings in a healthy way. It started with poetry and slowly evolved into lyrics and songs.
As a teen, his life took a significant turn after being expelled from high school for selling drugs on campus. This resulted with being sent to military school, where things looked up as he graduated with his GED. Yet, shortly thereafter, he was living on the streets and a series of bad decisions led to jail at the age of 18.
Struggling with addiction, self-worth and a lot of emotions that were rapidly becoming unmanageable, he finally found the hope he desperately needed. Upon entering a church, he hit his knees and God opened the door. He accepted Jesus as his Savior and it transformed his life. Rare of Breed now had a purpose for the lyrics he had begun writing in foster care so many years before.
He has been sharing his story through music for the past 10 years.
GodTwang is how he refers to his musical style. Rare of Breed blends Country and Christian music with Hip-Hop styling resulting in a sound that's uplifting and unique.
A life lived based on faith, family and sobriety continue to drive the message and shape the music he makes. Rare of Breed hopes to uplift and help others overcome struggles we all face.
