Rising Tide Gippsland is a group of Gippsland residents who are deeply concerned about the risks that runaway climate change poses to future generations and to the natural environment. We are part of a broader national movement, Rising Tide.
Rising Tide is made up of a huge groundswell of people of all ages, who last year, went in their thousands to the world’s largest coal port – the Port of Newcastle – to camp, swim, eat, make music, and blockade the port. It was an outstanding success.
Rising Tide wants the government to cancel all new fossil fuel projects, tax fossil fuel exports at 75% to fund community and industrial transition, and for all exports from Newcastle to be stopped by 2030.
