The Agricultural Societies Council of SA Inc (SA Country Shows) is the governing body of the country shows in South Australia, we work to protect and promote the interests of Agricultural, Horticultural, Floricultural, Industrial and Pastoral Societies, and their Shows across the state of South Australia.
SA Country Shows has 48 member shows and 8 member associations representing over 2000 volunteers from Wudinna to Pinnaroo, and Quorn to Mount Gambier, including all the peninsulas and Kangaroo Island.
Each year around 160,000 people attend SA Country Shows, which are held from August to November, and February to April.
SA Country Shows coordinates several competitions that run at local, association and state level. Competitions include:
Rich Fruit Cake Championship
Genoa Cake Competition
CWA/Laucke Scone Competition
Native Food Competition
Rural Ambassador Award
Young Rural Ambassador Award
State Finals for the above competitions are staged during the Royal Adelaide Show, except for the Young Rural Ambassador Award which is held in conjunction with the SA Country Shows Symposium in July.
The State Championships for the Young Judges and Paraders Competitions are also held at the Royal Adelaide Show, with SA Country Shows working with the Royal Adelaide Show sectional committees to run hotly contested competitions.
SA Country Shows is a member of Agricultural Shows Australia (ASA), a national show organisation that represents over 580 shows nationwide. Each year ASA runs National Finals for a series of Young Judges & Paraders competitions and the Rural Ambassador Award.
