Snells Beach is a spectacular site to see at-risk New Zealand dotterels (tūturiwhatu), migratory bar-tailed godwits (kuaka) and occasionally the critically threatened fairy tern (tara iti), among many other species of wildlife .
With the arrival of humans and all that comes with us – land clearance, mammalian predators and urbanisation, the fragile habitat of the shorebirds at our little coastal town has virtually collapsed.
You can help restore the fragile biodiversity of Snells Beach with small actions that will make a big difference to endemic and native shorebirds.
