Upper Murrumbidgee Landcare and Upper Shoalhaven Landcare Council are partnering for another year to support the 'Southern Tablelands Tree Start Growers Network' - a community based native plant growers network with the aim of producing the next generation of plants for the Southern Tablelands.
Thanks to our partners in Wagtail Natives Nursery and grant sponsors, the program aims to grow up to 20,000 tubestock to contribute to local revegetation projects each year. Growing local plant species in local conditions produces seedlings best adapted to our challenging environment.
As a volunteer grower in the Landcare growers network you would raise native seedlings from seed in your own backyard. The growing period will begin in early spring and growers will care for the seedlings until the end of autumn when they are hopefully ready for planting. Seedlings can be used for Landcare revegetation projects or other projects that are creating habitat, revegetating bushfire affected areas and building healthier landscapes.
Landcare supports volunteer growers throughout the growing process. We provide the growing kit, which includes the boxes, soil, planting tubes and growers handbook. The network is also supported by local experts to help troubleshoot any issues.
