Surf Coast Writers Festival is a community-driven cultural organisation dedicated to celebrating story, creativity and connection across the Surf Coast region and beyond.
The festival was born from a shared belief in the power of literature to bring people together and a desire to create a vibrant regional winter arts event. What began as an idea to gather readers and writers in meaningful conversation has grown into an ambitious, place-based cultural initiative designed to become a lasting institution for the region.
The inaugural festival will take place on 27 June 2026 in Torquay at RACV Resort Torquay and Torquay Library. Featuring 34 authors across 22 sessions and an anticipated audience of 2,500 attendees, the festival brings together writers, poets, thinkers and readers for author talks, panel discussions, workshops and conversations that spark ideas and foster connection.
Beyond the annual event, Surf Coast Writers Festival exists to strengthen regional cultural life, supporting local voices, welcoming nationally recognised talent, and creating meaningful partnerships with businesses who value community, creativity and long-term impact. With strong media backing from Times News Group and a clear vision for growth, the festival positions itself as a values-led cultural platform that builds identity, encourages dialogue and contributes to the creative economy of the Surf Coast.
Grounded in place, ambitious in scope, and community at its core, Surf Coast Writers Festival is not simply an event... it is the beginning of a new cultural chapter for the region.
