SYDNEY OPERA SOCIETY (SOS) is a small opera study group, which has been operating on the lower North Shore for some 40 years. We meet monthly, usually on the first Saturday of the month, at 2pm in the Willoughby Uniting Church, Clanwilliam Street, Willoughby. An interesting venue with no steps, and lots of parking. Our speakers include academics, such Dr Paul Smith, from University of New England; Dr David Larkin, from the Conservatorium; singers such as Dr David Greco, Brad Cooper, Jane Ede, Eleanor Lyons, Mary-Jean O’Doherty, and conductors such as Vladimir Fanshil, and Dr Sarah Penicka-Smith.

They can dissect operas, performed by Opera Australia, Pinchgut Opera, or other companies in Sydney or elsewhere, or sometimes their lives as a performer, particularly during difficult times, such as the recent pandemic.

We would like to invite anyone interested in opera to join us. We follow our talks with a delicious afternoon tea with our speakers.
