My entry point to martial arts was in the early 2000s when I studied
Wu style Tai Chi with Brian Cooper in Brighton, UK. This led me to
learning the Energy Arts Qigong system of Bruce Frantzis. Through the
characteristic softness of these arts I learned about body, fluid and
energy mechanics which contributed to healing old sporting injuries.
A
decade later I started spending more time in South East Asia. There I
initially became a Medical Qigong practitioner with Master Tan Soo Kong
then discovered Master Nigel Sutton in Penang, where I immersed fully
into the world of internal martial and South East Asian martial arts.
Now a Senior Instructor in the Zhong Ding Traditional Martial Arts
Association, my practice is rooted in Cheng Man-ch’ing Tai Chi and Gao
family Baguazang. That is balanced with the combative arts of Silat Tua
and Eskrima De Campo JDC-IO, which are the basis for my weapons based
training.
I share my understanding of these arts to
assist in the healing process of others and maintaining a healthy level
of fitness, building confidence and mental strength through self
defense, and ultimately offering a meditative practice that can be used
to understand the nature of the self and assist one's role in the world.
