Incorporated in 2017, Team Rainbow Queensland is a volunteer-led, Australian registered charity that promotes sport, fitness, healthy lifestyles, and social connection across Queensland’s diverse communities. Its core mission is to advance inclusion and diversity by connecting and supporting individuals, organisations, clubs, and groups that are welcoming and non-discriminatory. This includes liaising with, partnering alongside, and educating allies, businesses, and organisations in inclusive practice.
Team Rainbow was the first not-for-profit community organisation to operate as a unifying body for regional and smaller communities across the state, many of which lack the capacity to establish their own incorporated entities. Through centralised governance and infrastructure, Team Rainbow provides support including insurance coverage, board oversight, audited financial reporting, fundraising approvals, and digital management, enabling participation and representation across Queensland. Team Rainbow also hosted Australia’s first Pride House.
Team Rainbow is Queensland’s sole member organisation of both InterPride, the association of WorldPride host cities, and the Federation of Gay Games, which oversees the Gay Games. Through these affiliations, Team Rainbow represents its member organisations at regional, national, and international inclusive sporting and cultural events, including the Gay Games—the world’s largest sporting and cultural event.
