In 2015, at the landmark UN Climate Conference (COP) in Paris, governments of the world established the Climate High-Level Champions role. The Champions’ focus is to mobilize ambitious climate action from businesses, financial institutions, cities, regions, civil society and communities to support governments in achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. The current Climate High-Level Champions for COP30 and COP31, are Mr. Dan Ioschpe and Mr. Samed Ağırbaş.
Each Champion serves a two-year term, and passes the baton from COP to COP. They act as a bridge between non-State actors and national governments and are now guided by a five-year vision for accelerating implementation through the Global Climate Action Agenda. To help them deliver this work, the Climate High-Level Champions are supported by the Climate Champions Team, a global team of experts covering a broad spectrum of fields.
