The Common Crafter (Alexis) is the organiser behind a growing patchwork of community events in Canberra, including The Hearth, Sip & Stitch, Crafteoke, and now Craftflix. With a background in fine arts (including work exhibited at Craft ACT), they’ve shifted from the gallery world into creating spaces where creativity is less about output and more about connection.
Through projects like Sip & Stitch (a chatty textile circle), The Hearth (a free, open-table craft afternoon), and Crafteoke (karaoke meets crafting), ans more recently Craftflix (a crafty double feature), Alexis has built a reputation for turning simple gatherings into joyful communities. Each event is designed with accessibility, fun, and low-pressure creativity in mind—whether that’s winding down with yarn, belting out a pop ballad, or just sharing a table with strangers-turned-friends.
The Common Crafter’s work is ultimately about making space for connection, play, and care—welcoming people into the kind of social corner they’d want to return to.
