Created by Dr Katherine Holmes, the STEM-Improv Network is made for anyone with ties to STEM who wants to do improv and develop skills through improv that supports communication skills, STEM-engagement and confidence.
The mission statement is to bring together more people from STEM and Improv communities into the centre of STEM-Improv Venn-Diagram: To use improv skills in their STEM work and bring STEM into our improv, all whilst having fun.
This network welcomes folks with any improv experience and especially for folks with no improv experience! There are plenty of chances to start doing improv 101 within this network.
All STEM-Folk are invited too, including but limited to: (18+) students, teachers, presenters, storytellers, academic researchers, STEM-folk in industry, science communicators, STEM-hobbyists, retired STEM-folk, `
For any event, please get in touch if there are any accommodations the host can make for you. Katherine prioritise making STEM-Improv spaces into safe spaces for all participants with special care taken to make spaces that are comfortable for LGBTQ+, BIPOC, neurodivergent and disabled people.
To support people on low-income, outside of pilot courses, the network will aim to provide a limited number of partial or full bursaries. Please get in touch if this is something you may need. For those in strong incomes, the option of a donation-tickets will be available to fund bursary positions and receive a huge thanks!
The network will also fun Pay-What-You-Can (PWYC) improv events to give attendees the option of attending free events.
The host, Dr Katherine Holmes, is a mathematics and science communicator and trainer, improvised drama facilitator and performer, public speaker, LGBTQ+ rights advocate and hold a mathematics PhD in Quantum Mechanics. Katherine started learning improv in 2018, learning all sorts of different improv styles, and from 2022 start co-teaching applied-improv for science communication at Imperial College London alongside improv-book author Justine Jones. Katherine is now freelance providing this training to universities and organisations, as well as facilitating at local community improv.
