Located off Mt Crosby Road on the way to Karana Downs, Ugly Gully has long been a cherished spot, once a popular picnic site and waterhole. The name comes from a map originally planned for the area—though too rough for orienteering, the name "Ugly Gully" stuck, and it became synonymous with adventure and community.
Orienteering is an exciting and challenging outdoor sport that exercises the mind and body. It’s a great activity for all ages, offering a fun way to test your mental and physical limits. Whether running, walking, or riding, it’s all about getting out there, grabbing a map, and exploring the world around you. From the city to the country, through the Aussie bush, or along your local park, orienteering offers endless opportunities for adventure.
At Ugly Gully Club, our mission is to:
- Ensure that participants feel welcome – We are a friendly, inclusive group where everyone, from first-timers to experienced orienteers, is embraced with open arms.
- Assist in learning about orienteering – Whether you are looking to improve your skills or just want to understand the basics, we offer support to help you enjoy the sport to its fullest.
- Provide support to individuals, families, and groups – Orienteering is more fun when shared! We strive to foster a welcoming environment for individuals, families, and groups to enjoy the sport together.
So, whether you're racing through the bush, navigating an urban setting, or casually strolling with friends and family, we invite you to join us at Ugly Gully and discover the thrill of orienteering. Grab a map, explore, and enjoy the journey!
