Bug Hunt at Westgate Park, Port Melbourne
We are joining this national citizen science project, capturing a spring time snapshot of Australia's insect diversity at the Westgate Park - a bushland park that is rich in invertebrates
There’s a whole universe waiting to be discovered. We'll be helping scientists better understand our incredible native invertebrates while improving Australia’s ability to detect invasive species early.
Simply find a bug, take photos and upload them using iNaturalist. Scientists. Experts will help us identify what we find.
We will meet at BBQ shelter in Westgate Park, Todd Road, Port Melbourne and record invertebrates by uploading your brilliant photos to iNaturalist.
Quick facts:
Invertebrates make up 95% of all animal species in Australia and two thirds of them are undescribed by western science. Everyday observations by members of groups like ours provide vital data to monitor native biodiversity and strengthen biosecurity surveillance through early detection of invasive species
