The Women of Colour Skill Collective (WOCSC) is a network established to connect, support and celebrate women of colour living and working in Australia. Our aim is to create a safe and inclusive community of women to grow in their professional, personal and creative pursuits and hence champion representation across workplaces, freelancing communities, and other relevant sectors.
Our own experiences as migrant women in Australia highlight the opportunity gaps unique to culturally and racially marginalised (CARM) and migrant women which often hinder us from being our authentic selves in the workplace. We are building this community to facilitate access to a network that shares ideas, resources, opportunities and platforms that will enable us to recognise our full potential and take up the space we all deserve. We recognise and appreciate the value of Diversity and Inclusion initiatives across systems, and the WOC skill collective complements these reforms by supporting individual capacity building - a key driver to increasing representation in mainstream communities.
The WOCSC community connects like minded women who are committed to growing professionally, personally and creatively and could use a bit of support along the way. Our initiatives are focused on creating networking and mentorship opportunities, including skill development workshops in those areas where formal training is often found lacking. Leveraging the power of collaboration, we hope to foster a sense of belonging amongst all our participants, and support one another to do what it takes to break through this ‘double-glass ceiling’.
