Women's Adventure ACT are a volunteer-led, genuine community outdoors group who run free or low cost events for women, LGBTIQA+ and gender diverse folx in Canberra and surrounding areas.
We've been running since 2017, and have helped get over 6,000 women and gender diverse folx outdoors - all volunteer and community-led.
We mostly run local and interstate community hikes. In the past, we've also run sea kayaking, climbing, abseiling, horse riding and many more outdoor activities. We also regularly run skill courses including Learn to Navigate, and partner with other businesses for other outdoor skills training. Where we don't have the skills, qualification, experience or specialist gear to safely run an event ourselves, we source a group discount with a quality commercial provider. We have a grant-funded gear library available for participants to use on our events, and we can kit you out with the latest, ultra-light and quality hiking kit (eg tents, sleeping bags, mats, rain jackets, backpacks).
Our group co-ordinator - Kelli Jackson, was a former Search & Rescue member, former MACPAC Product Ambassador, Australian of the Year Local Hero Nominee and ACT Woman of the Year in 2022 for her work in running Women's Adventure ACT. While we might look like just a 'hiking group' from the outside - we are much more than that. Come along and make new friends, gain confidence in the outdoors, get yourself out of a funk, learn new skills and go on amazing adventures.
We have a set of 12 values that promote respect, leadership for women, support and respect for First Nations people, and promote and encourage diversity including supporting LGBTIQA+ and participants with disabilities.
