You Matter supports women and children who have experienced family violence by by setting up and furnishing safe, welcoming homes, whether they are transitioning to long-term or temporary accommodation.
There is a clear link between women’s homelessness and family violence, and having no safe place to stay is a significant barrier for women leaving high-risk living arrangements, particularly for those with children or dependents. Additionally, every year, of those women who do leave a violent living situation, a significant number return to the perpetrator due to a lack of money or financial security.
Women transitioning from the crisis stage to a journey of recovery and healing are particularly vulnerable, and we are proud that we positively impact this transition to reduce risk and the potential of returning to an unsafe living environment. We know that having a stable and secure place to live is a huge factor in women transitioning successfully through the recovery stage and going on to achieve positive health and wellbeing outcomes.
By creating Havens of Hope women are empowered to re-establish stability, independence, and connection to their community.
