Event description

The pollinator garden behind the museum is almost ready to plant up with spring seedlings.

It's almost two years since we stopped using toxic weedkiller behind the museum, and each season the flowers feel more and more healthy. We're growing healthy, organic, spray-free pollinator plants - the perfect ingredient for hot compost.

If you've been wondering if it really is possible to turn invasive weeds into exquisite compost, then here's a chance to come and see for yourself.

What's Hot Compost?

It's a lazy gardener's way to make great soil - build a cubic metre pile in one session, with the greens and browns carefully balanced, ensure there is ample air flow and the perfect moisture content. Use animal manure if possible, and when done, pop the biodynamic compost preparations inside, to let the herbal remedies work their magic.

Wait a couple of months, and you have beautiful soil.

I'll be adding some biodynamic cow pat pit preparation to the compost pile, so it's also an opportunity to learn about this soil conditioner.

All welcome
Thursday mornings are volunteering days at the museum with a group of locals working on a wide range of exhibits and then on Sunday afternoons there are always a couple of volunteers inside acting as guides. You can wander around the premises and chat with the people who know the exhibits well. It's a fascinating place to hang out, and a lovely group of people.

Each time I visit the pollinator garden I apply the biodynamic CPP preparation (cow pat pit), so if you'd like to try this then bring a bottle to take some home with you.
