Hot Compost workshop at Kingseat Organics
Event description
Learn creative composting:Â how to turn your garden trimmings into top quality compost.Â
- We all know that we need healthy soil to grow healthy food - and it's great to see more and more people asking how to make that soil themselves. There are lots of tips to learn, and this workshop will be focusin on hot composting - otherwise known as thermophilic composting.Â
- This event is at a commercial market garden, so we're probably going to have lots of vegetable trimmings, but I'll make sure we find a section of the property with tree prunings and common garden weeds, so we can talk about different strategies for making soil no matter where you are situated.Â
- Weeds don't have to cause stress or overwhelm, so long as you have practical methods to manage them. And that doesn't mean reaching for toxic weedkillers.Â
What to bring:Â
- We'll be outside, so gumboots or covered shoes are necessary.Â
- Wear suitable clothes for gardening. Most people like to have their own garden gloves when we start handling soil. We will go ahead in light rain, but if there's a serious storm then we'll get in touch to organise a rain date.Â
- It's really handy to have a bucket each, so bring one if you can.Â
Kingseat Organics make delicious food, and have offered to include a vegetarian curry for us to sample something from their commercial kitchen. Looking forward to this!Â
Malkiat will also give us a tour of the property, including their extra special water buffaloes.Â
As one of the only certified organic growers in the whole Franklin District, this family are our soil health superstars, and this will be a day to take the combined experience of Katrina of Blue Borage and Malkiat of Kings Eat Organics (in Kingseat) and share our love of soil making so that healthy soil gets a little bit closer to being common sense.
We can all eat better, one compost pile at a time. Â
Included in your ticket:Â
- Lunch (organic vegetarian curry with quinoa or rice)
- Coupon for the Blue Borage online courses 'Hot Composting' and 'Holistic Weed Management'
- Folllow-up coaching call to answer specific questions related to implementing hot composting in your home garden or workplace.Â
