Event description
A Night Of Hot String Jazz
Featuring George Washingmachine on violin/vocals and Ian Date on guitar - Ian & George are continuing the string jazz tradition.
Referencing Eddie Laing and Joe Venuti – considered the fathers of jazz guitar and jazz violin respectively – and Django Reinhardt & Stephane Grapelli’s Quintette du Hot Club de France, one of the world's first and all-time-greatest string jazz bands."
It will be a night of Hot String Jazz!
George is no stranger to Avoca Beach Theatre having performed here most recently with Simon Tedeschi, and also alongside Monica Trapaga.
George is thrilled to return with his long-time associate Ian Date – over four decades they have played tours together across Germany, France and Switzerland, and all over Australia at major festivals and events. There is always excitement in the room when they perform together.
Ian & George will be joined by the brilliant Andrew Dickeson on drums – who has played with the Who's Who of jazz and is first call drummer for everybody. The Bass chair will be filled by youngster Jacob Graham who is one of the young hot shots on the scene and described as “a revelation, one of the most accomplished double bassists I’ve heard for some time” (Eric Myers) in Sydney Arts Guide.
Playing music from the Golden Era of Swing, with all the great songwriters from Cole Porter to Irving Berlin, this will be a night of swinging jazz and stories – don’t miss out!
