The Trailblazing HOUSE OF MARAMA will be fundraising to compete at the 5th Anniversary @houseofalexander Ball in Magandjin, Brisbane (so-called Australia) Sep 14th to represent Te Whanganui-a-Tara, once again, in the name of MARAMA.

Ballroom is a safe space created in the 1960's, forged by the Black, Latinx and queer Americans in protest against the racism and queerphobia that they faced from the non-queer community and white queer community. It is a space held to protect trans womxn of colour, so as guests and participants within this culture it is imperative that we all do our best to respect and honour this sacred space. Homophobia, Transphobia, and any discriminatory language and/or beliefs will not be tolerated. Remember to check your privilege at the door.

BALLROOM TERMINOLOGY*

• FRESH FACE = Serve the elements of Face (teeth/smile, eyes, skin (tone/complexion), structure and nose) all natural (no make-up)
  
• NAILS VS NAILS = Walkers must serve the best cosmetic nails (eg. stiletto/coffin/almond nail extensions with Nail Art etc.)
• FQ EXECUTIVE REALNESS = Your ability to parody and "pass" as a heterosexual woman in everyday society. This category is only for Fem Queen 'FQ' (Trans Female-identifying persons).
• TM EXECUTIVE REALNESS = Your ability to parody and "pass" as a heterosexual man in everyday society. This category is only for Trans Men 'TM' (Trans Male-identifying persons).
• LIP-SYNC PERFORMANCE = Lip-syncing (fake-singing) and giving a stellar performance to one of the songs listed.
  
• OTA = Open to All, not limited to a specific gender identity/expression, or category style.
• VOGUE FEM = A style of voguing that incorporates the 5 elements of VF: hands performance, catwalk, duckwalk, floor performance, and spins & dips. Recommended for seasoned walkers.
