Homes that meets our real needs - lunchtime webinar with Minette Hillyer from The Workshop
Event description
Home. It’s where we cook, play and read, gather together, and rest at the end of a busy day. Our homes should be a haven – a place that keeps us warm and well, and a place where we can put down roots.
Our new report ‘Homes that meet our real needs: How people think and reason about housing performance in Aotearoa NZ’ shares the findings of Aotearoa-specific research we undertook in collaboration with BRANZ, which found that New Zealanders across the motu want and expect decent homes that meet our real needs, from the people building our houses to the people living in them.
So how do we reframe the conversation to ensure that our housing system has the right supports in place to prioritise wellbeing? We can start by shifting narratives away from housing as a way to create wealth, and move towards the story of our homes being the places we can live out happy and fulfilling lives.
If you are interested in shifting the public conversation about better housing in Aotearoa New Zealand, or if you’re working to empower industry and communities in understanding and demanding a better building system that prioritises healthy homes, this talk is for you.
Join Dr Minette Hillyer, Senior Narrative Advisor with The Workshop, for this lunchtime webinar covering:
• how people in Aotearoa New Zealand think and reason about the performance of homes and what gets in the way of public understanding
• unhelpful frames to avoid when talking about home performance
• frames and framing strategies that have the potential to shift the conversation about improving home performance in Aotearoa New Zealand.
