Discover how not-for-profits have successfully utilised impact investment to diversify their revenue streams, and understand the challenges in doing so.
In this session you will gain:
- An understanding of how to approach impact investing in the context of not-for-profit organisations
- Practical strategies and real-world examples for attracting diverse funding for not-for-profits, through various investment vehicles including raising external funds, patient debt, special-purpose vehicles, social impact bonds, and real asset partnerships.
- The myths and challenges associated with impact investment for not-for-profits (spoiler alert: it is not a panacea!)
Panelists
- Alon Greenspan, Mind Ventures: Alon is the managing partner of Mind Ventures, a mental health venture fund. Alon invests in all evidence based verticals across mental health to solve the biggest problems in mental health.
Prior to Mind Ventures, Alon spent over a decade in tech M&A and venture capital. He was previously a partner at Jelix Ventures where invested in and worked with 40+ portfolio companies. Prior to Jelix, he gained extensive global tech M&A experience working for Herzog and Arnold Bloch Leibler.
He's an active angel investor and holds degrees in Commerce and Law.
- Lisa Federenko, Save the Children: Lisa Fedorenko is Head of Impact Investing at Save the Children Global Ventures, where she leads investments in innovative projects and companies driving transformative change for children across the Asia-Pacific. Previously, Lisa managed the $16 million Alberts Impact Ventures fund, backing 23 impact-driven companies advancing environmental sustainability, mental health, vibrant culture, and gender equality. She pioneered investing for structurally reducing inequality as an impact thematic, leading in-depth work on gender equality and mental health.
Lisa is well recognised for her strong track record in the Australian venture capital community. In 2023, she was named to the Fortune Change Makers list for co-founding Equity Clear—a new standard for reporting founder diversity, now adopted by over 60 funds in Australia and New Zealand. Earlier in her career, Lisa worked at Credit Suisse, contributing to major IPOs including Alibaba, Healthscope, and Wisetech, before moving into listed equities at Montgomery Investment Management, where she helped manage the $1 billion Montgomery Fund.
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science with distinction from the University of Sydney, majoring in Advanced Mathematics, Computer Science, and Econometrics. She is fluent in Russian, has been twice nominated for Climate Tech Investor of the Year, and is a frequent speaker and thought leader in impact investing
- Tameka Thompson, Hutt Street Centre: Tameka is the Aspire Program Manager and Clinical Lead at Hutt St Centre. Tameka has a Social work degree and has worked at the Centre for over 11 years; in both case management and leadership positions across three of the centre’s Homefulness programs.
Tameka leads the Aspire Program, which started out as South Australia’s first social impact bond and Australia’s first homelessness specific social impact bond. Due to the success of the bond, the program has evolved into a government funded program.
Tameka is passionate about the organisations vision to end homelessness and aim to support people to achieve Homefulness, which is exactly what the Aspire program strives to achieve.
