The Northern Beaches Committee  for Palestine 

continues our series of meetings at Manly Library with three interesting panellists, each of whom are engaged and personally concerned with Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, and with the influence of the Zionist lobby on Australian media and politics.

Wendy Bacon


Wendy Bacon is an investigative journalist who was the Professor of
Journalism at UTS. She worked for Fairfax, Channel Nine and SBS and has
published in The

Guardian, New Matilda, City Hub and Overland. She has a
long history in promoting independent and alternative journalism.

She is a long-term supporter of a peaceful BDS and the Greens.

 

John Highfield


John Highfield is a retired broadcast journalist. After his cadetship in commercial radio 2SM he joined the newly formed ABC Radio Current Affairs Unit.

Over a 40 year career with our National Broadcaster he served as the Presenter of AM, PM and The World Today, as well as numerous terms as a foreign correspondent across many countries, including Lebanon, Israel and the Occupied Territories.

He was appointed as the ABC Foreign Editor in 1990 with a brief to expand the ABC’s foreign coverage, opening new Bureaux in South Africa, Russia and Vietnam.

He retired from the ABC In 2004, concentrating alongside his wife Trish as advocates for refugees and asylum seekers.

Yaakov Aharon



Yaakov Aharon
is new to journalism, having come from a background of activism.

Yaakov brings unique perspectives to the Palestinian struggle, credited to his political journey away from the Ultra Orthodox Jewish community and the pro-Israel education of his youth.

His research concerns the Israel lobby, Jewish-Australian community, party politics, and the arms trade.
