Description

Packaging compliance is getting more complicated by the day for Australian exporters, with myriad rules and standards proliferating across global markets.

The UK’s packaging extended producer responsibility scheme (pEPR), is making detailed packaging data increasingly important for reporting, recyclability assessments and producer fees. The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), introduces new requirements for packaging minimisation, recyclability, recycled content, labelling, and reuse.

Understanding the regulations is only the beginning.

Businesses must determine which requirements apply, understand where responsibility sits across entities and trading relationships, and find the packaging data needed to support compliance. For large exporters operating across multiple products, packaging formats and markets, that work is fast becoming increasingly difficult.

In this first instalment of Phantm’s Export Ready Webinar Series, Frances Carter, Group Manager - Sustainability at Thomas Foods International, will join us to explore how TFI is approaching that challenge.

Frances will share how she is breaking a complex regulatory problem into manageable parts, from mapping packaging and markets to identifying data gaps, establishing internal ownership and deciding what to prioritise first.

The session will offer a behind-the-scenes look at compliance readiness, including what TFI understands today, where uncertainty remains, and how the business continues to move forward.

We will cover:

  • What the UK's pEPR and the EU's PPWR mean for Australian exporters

  • How TFI began scoping its exposure across products, packaging and markets

  • Where packaging responsibility can sit across exporters, local entities, importers and distributors

  • Why finding and structuring packaging data is often harder than expected

  • How sustainability teams can establish ownership across procurement, packaging, finance, commercial and compliance functions

  • How to keep making progress while requirements and implementation guidance continue to develop

Who it's for:

This session is designed for Australian exporters, manufacturers and brand owners selling into, or preparing to enter, the UK and European markets.

It will be particularly relevant to sustainability, packaging, procurement, supply chain, finance and compliance leaders responsible for packaging data, export-market requirements and regulatory readiness.
