How to bring Silicon Valley to YOUR classroom
Event description
Coined as the ‘Silicon Beach’ of the West, Perth is fast catching up to the rest of the world as a technology talent hub. Whilst, we are not as famous or notorious as the east coast states, silicon valley has long been attracting young Perth talent out to the US. As a sleepy city on the west coast, what makes us the best candidate for innovation if we are not as fast-paced? In 2020, Carmel School in partnership with Curtin University and Uncharted Learning (Chicago-based program) rolled out its signature entrepreneurship program aimed at bringing the innovative culture of the US to Perth. 3 years on and 2 programs across Year 9 and 10 later, tune in as Anna walks through some of the key lessons she's learned and how you can help foster higher levels of innovation in your high school programs.
This workshop will share some of the topics we teach across the year groups, some budget-friendly resources that can help any school bring innovation in their classroom to life, and a sample lesson plan for customer interviews.Â
TLDR? Anna will be sharing some insights into some ‘americian-isms’ that Anna has adopted into her classroom through this US-developed program and a partnership with The ‘Hawker School’ (basically the school where the sons and daughters of silicon valley’s greatest go to) and how we should be changing our classrooms to help foster more innovation.
Anna is been living her best innovative life as an entrepreneurship educator to some awesome young changemakers for the last 3 years at Carmel School. Prior to this, she worked as a community manager at Bloom WA where she helped young adults at universities connect with the wider innovation ecosystem. When not enjoying a soy chai latte with other young entrepreneurs around the country and mentoring for University entrepreneurship programs, she's often in the classroom crafting up a storm or sharing her many resources with other teachers!
