How to buy organic food that won't break the budget!
Event description
Welcome to the world of purchasing organic and sustainable food while saving money and building community. We will explore different models of obtaining food in the city NOW, without having to use a supermarket. We will also offer you a glimpse inside the Randwick Organic Buyers Group, which has been providing cheap, organic fruit and vegetables to more than 50 households each year for the last 15 years.
Your presenters will be Danielle Northey and Justine Lloyd:
Danielle is a founding member of the Randwick Organic Buyers Group (after attending a workshop at an Eco Living Festival in 2006!). Danielle believes that the success and longevity of the group is down to its simple model and the community that it creates. She is inspired to help others set up groups using a similar model so that more people can access sustainable food.
Justine is a university lecturer and has lived in Randwick since 2006 (which happens to be the longest she has lived in any one location in her whole life!). She has been involved with the Randwick Organic Buyers Group for the last ten years, and loves the welcoming community and positive energy in the group, as well as the feeling of abundance and gratitude that sharing bulk organic fresh fruit and vegetables brings.
Just for Fun!
When you are shopping next, jot down where your fresh fruit and vegetables originated. Were they grown locally or did they come from further afield such as the US or Mexico? Also check out whether your local supplier stocks organic produce. If they do, how do the prices compare with the non-organic fruit and vegetables?
