An introduction into how TV series are written in a Writer's Room. Participants will learn the techniques for writing for screen, developing high concept ideas, working collaboratively in a writers room, researching story and pitching the project to prospective TV streaming companies. A Writer's Room is the industry standard for creating TV series.

Event Description

The workshops will provide an opportunity for the community to learn the basic skills to become a part of a Writer's Room. The main requirement for a member of a Writer's Room to be effective is life experience (all writers draw on their life experiences). The course will start with an overview of how a writing room works before going into specific details about:

* How to generate story ideas and never have writer's block

* Using free screenwriting software to format scripts to global film industry standards

* How to create believable characters that resonate with audiences

* How to balance plot, character, setting and theme into a coherent narrative

* The importance of research in developing a series that is believable and authentic

* The ethical use of AI in the Arts

* How to write great dialogue

* The importance of revision

*How to pitch TV series

Important Information before applying

This event is free and proudly supported by the City of Armadale. The workshop will be limited to twelve participants only to replicate a real writer's room. Please submit a one paragraph expression of interest detailing why you would like to enrol in this workshop. This will be used in the event of more than 12 applicants. Your EoI paragraph should be emailed to Eroscreatives2020@gmail.com. Successful applicants will be notified by email.

It is highly recommended that participants have access to a laptop computer. Successful applicants will be notified of the free screenwriting software they will need to download. The workshop will be run over two days - Sunday May 12 and 19 between 12.30 and 4.00 pm. Successful applicants will therefore need to commit to the two days.
