Event description

This workshop is the second of five aimed at improving life satisfaction backed by science to improve all areas of wellbeing. It is fun and interactive. It doesn't matter if you have missed previous sessions.

This session explores the concept of “flow” (also to be considered as improving concentration and being present) and how to increase it in our daily lives. "Flow" is the state of being fully absorbed in an activity, where time seems to stand still, and we experience a deep sense of enjoyment and control. In these sessions, we'll discover why experiencing flow is important and how we can cultivate it to enhance our well-being and fulfilment.

Why is it important?

Flow is a deeply gratifying experience that brings its own rewards. When we are fully concentrated and absorbed in the moment, we:

  • Lose self-awareness
  • Stop tracking time
  • Replace boredom with enjoyment
  • Transform helplessness into a sense of control

In these moments, we feel truly engaged and in tune with what we are doing, which can greatly enhance our sense of purpose and happiness.

What can flow look like?

Flow can be experienced in a variety of activities, such as:

  • A good conversation
  • Completing a work task
  • Playing a musical instrument
  • Reading a book or writing
  • Building furniture or fixing a bike
  • Gardening, sports training, or performing

Finding and engaging in activities that create flow can make everyday life more meaningful and enjoyable.

How to increase it?

In the final session, we will explore practical ways to increase flow in your daily life:

  • Do what you love – Choose activities where you lose track of time and feel fully engaged.
  • Live in the moment – Practise mindfulness, even during simple tasks like taking a shower.
  • Spend time in nature – Observe and listen to the natural world around you.
  • Identify your strengths – Learn more about your character strengths and focus on activities that align with them.
  • Do what you’re good at – Engage in tasks where your skills shine, enhancing your sense of accomplishment.
