How to: improve connection
Event description
This workshop is the third of five aimed at improving life satisfaction backed by science to improve all areas of wellbeing. It is fun and interactive.
Connection is a fundamental aspect of being human, and nurturing it can provide comfort and meaning, helping us navigate life’s challenges while improving how we engage in the workplace.
Why is it important?
Connection plays a critical role in our emotional and social well-being. It offers:
- An antidote to life’s challenges – Connecting with others helps us bounce back from difficult times.
- A boost to survival – As social beings, our connections with and support of others are essential for thriving.
- Purpose and meaning – Building relationships gives life a deeper sense of purpose.
- Belonging and relaxation – When we connect, we feel a sense of belonging, which helps us relax and unwind.
- Understanding without words – We often feel understood without explaining our emotions, which enhances emotional safety.
Connection allows us to feel emotionally safe and supported, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose.
Some ways to increase connection
In the second session, we will look at practical steps to strengthen our connections with others:
- Join a class or group that aligns with your interests.
- Ask questions of people you don’t know well to learn more about them and create deeper connections.
- Create friendships with acquaintances by spending more time with them.
- Reconnect with friends you haven’t spoken to in a while and rebuild those relationships.
- Perform random acts of kindness to spread goodwill and create emotional bonds with others.
- Take comfort in others’ presence – simply being around others can bring a sense of calm and emotional safety.
Connection improves our emotional health and enriches our lives with meaning and purpose. These sessions will offer insights and practical advice on how to build deeper, more meaningful connections in everyday life.
