How To Start A Side Hustle is a one-day school holiday startup experience for high school students who want to learn how to start a business while they are still at school.
Throughout the day, students will:
Hear from young entrepreneurs in the morning and learn how they started, what worked, what didn’t and the advice they would give to other students.
Build a business idea based on their skills, interests, hobbies or opportunities they see around them.
Identify their customer and explore who would actually buy their product or service.
Create a brand including the name, look, messaging and how they could market it.
Develop their product or service and think through what they are offering, how it works and what makes it different.
Explore sales and marketing including how to attract customers, price an offer and make their first sales.
Plan their next steps so they leave knowing what they need to do to keep building their idea after the workshop.
Students can attend with an existing business idea or start completely from scratch.
By the end of the day, students will have worked through the key stages of turning an idea into a real business opportunity, while building confidence and connecting with other young people interested in entrepreneurship.

Students in Years 7–10 who are interested in business, making money, creativity or trying something new.
- Do I need to already have a business idea?
Not at all. Students can come with an existing idea or start completely from scratch.
- Do I need any business experience?
No experience is required. The workshop is designed for beginners as well as students who may already be selling something.
- Will I actually create a business during the workshop?
Students will work on their own business concept throughout the day and leave with a clearer idea, brand direction and plan for what to do next.
- What should I bring?
Please bring:
A laptop or device and charger
Morning tea, lunch and snacks
A water bottle
A notebook and pen
Any business ideas, products or notes you may already be working on
Students do not need to have a business idea before attending.
- Will lunch be provided?
No. Students will need to bring their own morning tea, lunch, snacks and water bottle for the day.
