HSC Physics Experiments for Fundamentals of Mechanics - Sydney Region.

Join Matt Dodds to learn about all things Fundamentals of Mechanics as it relates to syllabus outcomes from the new NSW Physics Syllabus (2025). This Physics workshop is practical in nature, and requires the use of a laptop with Microsoft Excel for data collection and analysis. This in person Fundamentals of Mechanics workshop can be logged as 5 Hours of Elective Professional Development and Certificates will be emailed to attendees after the course has been completed.

Their is an option to purchase a workshop ticket that includes an equipment pack within the ticket. This includes:

Teachers begin by learning how to determine a value for gravity using 3 different methods to using both simple and advanced equipment.

Newton's Second Law is then investigated to deduce the empirical relationship between force, mass and acceleration with an experimental setup that is easy to replicate in your own classroom.

Next we examine static and kinetic friction with two methods to calculate the coefficient of static and kinetic friction.

The fun continues with examining analysing the relationship between the angle of an inclined plane and the acceleration of an object.

Then we move on to all things Momentum. We will explore how momentum can be investigated quantitively using both elastic and inelastic collisions.

Finally we will examine the relationship between work, force and displacement.
