🎙️Topic: The impact of a hospital-based special care unit on behavioural and psychological symptoms in older people living with dementia
While one-in-four medical inpatients have dementia with up to 60% experiencing changed behaviours in hospital and high rates of adverse outcomes, hospitals have not developed effective models-of-care for managing behaviours in dementia. Dr Graham reports on the effective implementation of a specialised hospital-based model of care, demonstrating reduced symptom severity alongside reduced psychotropics and restraint use.
