United Nations Association of Australia (NSW Division) - Monthly Meetup
Event description
Hello everyone, we have another exciting Meetup this month to inform, inspire and engage you to help create a safer, fairer and more sustainable world - all welcome.
This month's theme is Sustainable Development:
Special guest speakers:
Amanda Kane, Organics Manager, NSW Environmental Protection Authority
Amanda Kane manages the NSW Government’s $105 million program to get food waste out of landfill, including action to reduce it through Love Food Hate Waste, increase recycling, increase processing capacity, boost donation and develop markets for the end product www.epa.nsw.gov.au/fogo.
Annika Stott, Sustainability Strategist, OzHarvest
With a strong belief in the importance of tackling food waste to fight climate change, Annika is passionate about addressing food waste from both a social and environmental perspective. As Sustainability Strategist at OzHarvest, she leads all things sustainability – including our consumer food waste prevention campaigns and food waste policy and advocacy work. With experience in both Australia and the UK, Annika has extensive knowledge and expertise in food waste education and behavioural change. Understanding the complexities of food waste from farm to fork, she is pioneering change as a member of National Food Waste Strategy steering committee, the Fight Food Waste Cooperative Research Centre, and also represents OzHarvest at a number of peak body groups. Annika believes in making the world a better place by reconnecting people with the value of food.
Richard Watson, NSW State Manager, OzHarvest
Having spent 19 years as a General Manager in the event industry both in Australia and in the UK, Richard’s experience lends itself well to his role as NSW State Manager of OzHarvest. With a genuine passion for making a difference, Richard started his journey with OzHarvest as a volunteer in 2014 and feels honoured and privileged to be able to put his skills and experience to use for such an amazing organisation.
Managing a fleet of 26 vehicles in NSW, rescuing on average 350 tons of food per month from over 400 donors and delivering it to just under 400 charities, Richard is passionate and dedicated to fighting food waste and helping those in need across the country. A self-confessed king of desserts Richard can confidently say that he has never failed to put the ice cream into the cone when dishing up the occasional treat for his daughters! He’s hoping his role at OzHarvest will help develop his culinary skills further. When he’s not creating a masterpiece in the kitchen you can find him running around the Bay Run, hacking around a golf course or spending time with his family.
We look forward to seeing you!
