Event description

Hello everyone, we have another exciting Meetup this month to inform, inspire and engage you to help create a safer, fairer and more sustainable world - all welcome.

This month's special guest speakers are:

    James Cox, Peacific

James is the founder of Peacifica. He is a respected voice in international peacebuilding and statebuilding policy with two decades of development experience in the government and not-for profit sector. James is the former chair of the Civil Society Platform for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding, a global coalition of peacebuilding organisations that is the voice of civil society in the International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding, and in the New Deal for Engagement in Fragile States. James previously led World Vision International's fragile states policy engagement for several years and has also worked on Pacific, human rights and general development policy. James was a leading civil society contributor to the successful advocacy for the adoption of a peace goal in the Sustainable Development Goals, and for peace to be an overarching objective of the Goals. He led World Vision’s reorientation of its approach to fragile states, which is still ongoing. He was part of the original design and leadership team of Australia’s Make Poverty History Campaign.James holds a Masters of Human Rights Law and Policy, a Graduate Diploma in Southeast Asian Studies and a Bachelor of Chinese Studies.

Jenny-Lee Scharnboeck, Head of Partnerships, Take 3 for the Sea

Take 3 believes in simple actions to address complex problems. How can we stop plastic pollution from killing wildlife and suffocating our planet? In 2009, two friends set about answering this question. Marine ecologist, Roberta Dixon-Valk and youth educator, Amanda Marechal developed Take 3 – an idea where a simple action could produce profound consequences. Joining forces with environmentalist, Tim Silverwood, the trio publicly launched Take 3 as an organisation in 2010. Take 3 pieces of rubbish with you when you leave the beach, waterway or…anywhere, and you have made a difference.

We look forward to seeing you!
