    Dr Sarah Li is a Radiation Oncologist at GenesisCare Bundaberg. Her research interests include radiotherapy special techniques and rare cancers. Working Title: “Shining the light on Rare Cancers”

    B.Business, Cert II Community & Stakeholder Engagement Secretary Trish Mears is a prominent Bundaberg-based communications professional, community adviser, and marriage celebrant with an extensive background in media, local government, and public advocacy. Named one of Bundaberg's Women of Influence, she has spent her career driving regional public relations, marketing, and community engagement. She was awarded Citizen of the Year in 2023 for her work with Relay for Life, Bundaberg Players Inc, Moore Park Beach Arts Festival, and Qld Cancer Council. Trish is dedicated to serving her community.

    MB BS, DrPH, FRACP, FRCP, FAFPHM, FACPM Vice President Associate Professor Dr Martin Strahan is a highly respected physician and public health specialist with extensive experience in clinical medicine, population health, health service planning and healthcare governance. Dr Strahan provides expert clinical and strategic guidance to the Bundaberg Community Hospice Group, ensuring that the proposed hospice model reflects contemporary best practice in palliative and end-of-life care. His involvement strengthens the Group's capacity to engage with healthcare providers, policymakers and funding organisations. − Lived in Bundaberg 33 years, born in Rockhampton, 3 sons, 13 grand children − Consultant Physician – specialising in Internal Medicine and Public Health Medicine − Previously, President of Bundaberg Medical Association − Executive Director, Wide Bay Private Day Hospital − Executive Chairman, Bundaberg Health Promotions Ltd − Chairman, Acorn Child Care Centres − Director, Strathavon Red Angus Stud Farm − Secretary, Clan Strachan Charitable Trust (Scotland)

    JP (Qual)-Funeral and Marriage Celebrant, Dip. of Dementia Care, The Rotary FoundationPaul Harris Fellow 2026 President Cynthia Hoogstraten is the founding President of the Bundaberg Community Hospice Group and has been a driving force behind the community's vision to establish a dedicated hospice service for the Bundaberg region. Drawing on extensive community networks and advocacy experience, Cynthia has led stakeholder engagement with community members, healthcare professionals, government representatives and regional organisations to build support for the project. Her leadership is founded on the belief that every person deserves dignity, comfort and compassionate care at the end of life, close to family, friends and community.

    We are concerned community members who have independently identified the need for a hospice in Bundaberg. Collectively, our purpose is to advocate for the establishment of a hospice. We recognise that everyone is unique, valued and should have the choice to die with support in comfortable and peaceful surroundings where home or hospital are not ideal or possible.     Frankie

    Frankie is a Clinical Nurse Consultant with the Voluntary Assisted Dying Service, coordinating VAD care across hospital, community and home settings throughout the region. As a registered nurse with a long career in mental health, rural and remote healthcare and specialist nursing services, Frankie now works with patients, their families and health professionals throughout the voluntary assisted dying process. She is particularly passionate about ensuring people in regional and rural communities have equitable access to choice and high-quality end-of-life care. Outside work, Frankie fosters rescue cats in numbers that frequently suggest poor decision-making, rides motorbikes, and is the owner of an ever-growing collection of hobbies and unfinished projects.   She is also planning a highly successful future career as a potter, just as soon as she gets around to watching a YouTube tutorial and learns how to actually make pottery.
