Policy Essentials for Community Organisations

Good policies help community organisations make fair decisions, protect people and manage money with confidence. They also give volunteers a shared understanding of what to do.

Join ECCQ for a practical, interactive workshop designed for multicultural community organisations, including those run entirely by volunteers.

The workshop will explore everyday situations involving child safety, health and safety, financial management, volunteer and member conduct, conflicts of interest, complaints and privacy. Through practical examples and discussion, you’ll learn how to:

• Identify which policies your organisation needs and where to start

• Understand the difference between a policy, a procedure and a checklist

• Develop clear, practical policies and adapt templates to suit your organisation

• Help people understand and use your policies in everyday activities

You’ll leave with a clearer picture of your organisation’s policy priorities and practical steps to develop or improve them.

Suitable for Committee members, community leaders and volunteers. No previous experience in writing policies is needed.
