Description

Come together with author Jade Miles and Astare of Spiral Sisters for an afternoon of connection, conversation and good food.

Jade will be drawing from her latest book 'Huddle', exploring how we begin the process of building our communities to create a sense of place, nurture relationships and embrace our humanity as we learn to connect and create our own 'huddles'. Jade will invite us to consider the power of localising - how we might garner strength, ideas and resilience within our own communities.

We will all sit together starting the afternoon weaving with Astare to take something home with us all to remember our afternoon shared together, then moving into conversation and discussion with Jade all whilst we share good food, talk, laugh and drinking tea.

A little more on Jade;

With the bush in her bones and dirt under her fingernails, Jade Miles is a farmer, author, podcaster, community-builder and enthusiastic collector of too many jobs. If she's not speaking on a stage somewhere around Australia, she's usually barefoot in the orchard, chasing a child, planting a tree, stirring a pot of something seasonal or dreaming up ways to bring good humans together.

Jade is the author of Futuresteading: Living Like Tomorrow Matters and Huddle: Creating a Tomorrow of Togetherness—two books born from a simple belief that the future isn't something that happens to us; it's something we create through the everyday choices we make, the skills we keep alive, and the communities we invest in.

As host of the Futuresteading podcast, now spanning more than 180 episodes, Jade has spent years exploring what it means to live well in uncertain times. Her conversations range from farming and food to resilience, belonging, creativity, family, and the quiet wisdom often hiding in plain sight.

At home on the Stanley Plateau in Northeast Victoria, Jade and her husband run Black Barn Farm—a regenerative heritage orchard, nursery and gathering place where fruit is grown, stories are shared, and people come together to learn, celebrate and remember how to live a little closer to the seasons. Through workshops, school programs, long-table suppers, fellowships and community gatherings, Black Barn has become a living expression of the ideas explored in both of Jade's books.

Alongside her work at Black Barn Farm, Jade is the CEO of Sustainable Table, helping strengthen the connections between farmers, communities and the future of Australian food. Under her leadership, the organisation has evolved into a national force supporting farmers and food-system changemakers through storytelling, connection and catalytic investment.

Jade's work isn't about telling people how they should live. It's about inviting people to become more curious, more connected and more intentional. Through storytelling, humour and a healthy respect for common sense, she encourages audiences to reconsider what success looks like, to value enough over more, and to rediscover the power of community in a world that too often celebrates individual achievement.

At its heart, Jade's message is simple: the good life isn't found somewhere else. It's built around kitchen tables, in paddocks, at local halls, through shared meals, useful skills, meaningful work and the people who show up for one another when it counts.

"Every decision we make shapes the world around us. The question isn't whether we're creating the future—it's what kind of future we're creating together."
