Event description

A simple initiative to amplify human connection and mental wellbeing in a world of social distancing.

We are tribal animals and our ability to not only survive but to thrive has long depended on our social networks and what we invest in them. Positive social connection is scientifically proven to make us happier and healthier.

According to the work of world-renowned happiness researcher Shawn Achor, positive social connections reduce anxiety, improve our ability to focus and also bolster our immune and cardiovascular systems.

In a world where anxiety and loneliness were already on the rise, where human connection was becoming a luxury and where social distancing is now the new norm we have an opportunity. An opportunity to intentionally invest in ourselves and each other, to make human connection a practice, and our mental wellbeing a priority.  With so much fear flooding our feeds our aim is to provide a template to cultivate connection, kindness and hope to shape a better tomorrow.

What Is Human Hour?

Human Hour a commitment to spend an hour of your time invested in positive human connection?  The concept is simple. This hour is lightly facilitated and has one objective: to bring positive human connection into your day. It’s not an hour to talk work, to pedal fear or share the latest statistics on Covid19. It’s an opportunity for us to understand each other, to express gratitude, kindness and bring a little happiness into each other’s day.

The Rules Of Human Hour

  • It is always free and available to anyone
  • If you commit, you show up, as spaces are limited
  • Be unashamedly you, we don’t do human filters
  • All ages welcome, diversity is part of the magic
  • If you want to sell or self-promote, Human Hour is not the space to do it
  • Fear-mongering is not allowed, there’s already enough of that out there
  • We have two ears and one mouth and we use them in that proportion to allow everyone to have a voice
  • All distractions should be turned off or on silent during the session
  • Laughter, gratitude, and kindness is encouraged
  • We will not tolerate any toxic behaviour that is offensive or discriminatory in any way

Join Us To See How It Works

If you’d like to get a feel for how this works and how to run your own Human Hour, our Founder Penny Locaso will be facilitating three Human Hours in the coming week. Each session is limited to a maximum of 10 to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to engage and be heard. This is an experiment and if the demand outweighs the supply, we will schedule more sessions.
