About the Workshop
The Human Rights in Practice - For Professionals workshop is a 6-hour online practical and experiential workshop, held for 2 hours for 3 consecutive weeks, that promotes a critical understanding of human rights approach for all service delivery and policy makers in the human services sector.

Our approach is collaborative, non-judgmental, practical and solutions-focused.
Who Should Attend:
Anyone who works in the social services sector or is looking to build an understanding of human rights in practice in preparation for work in the field. This workshop is relevant to frontline staff, educators, youth workers, leaders, policy and project professionals across the NFP sector and government.
No prior knowledge required.
What You'll Learn
Over the course of the workshops, participants will discover the key concepts relating to applied human rights which includes foundational knowledge, theory and the practical application to your work and your daily life. The series, led by international human rights expert Mmaskepe Sejoe, will uncover how these apply to individuals, organisations and governments in the real world using relevant international case studies and enabling students to bring their own experiences and case studies to the discussions.

What human rights mean to each of us at work, home and in the community
The unique value of the human rights framework for advocacy of self and others
How do we use key messages about human rights principles in our everyday lives
Who is responsible for promoting and protecting human rights for all
How do we assess and identify human rights risks or breaches

Workshop Outcomes
This workshop aims to:
Empower staff with human rights knowledge
Equip participants with a current and relevant understanding of human rights and responsibilities
Build skills on how to effectively negotiate human rights provisions in day-to-day work
Provide mechanisms for integrating human rights standards to protect and promote rights in your community
Certificate:
All participants will receive a certificate of completion following the workshop.
Meet Your Facilitators
Mmaskepe Sejoe
Mmaskepe is an internationally recognised expert in human rights with 30 years' experience in diverse areas such as child protection, corrections, gender-based violence, women's health, policing and refugees. She has provided expertise to the United Nations, and all levels of government in Australia.
Her pioneering human rights education and training approach has consistently enhanced efficiency, effectiveness, and stakeholder participation across various sectors.Mmaskepe's impactful contributions include spearheading the integration of human rights within policing, women's health, and child protection services.
India de Vienne
India brings 15 years' experience in policy and strategic project roles across child protection, youth justice, and policing with a focus on high-stakes stakeholder engagement, governance, quality assurance, risk management. Her career includes work with Victoria Police, Queensland Youth Justice, Victorian Department of Human Services and Social Futures.
