Human Rights In Practice Workshop
Event description
The Human Rights in Practice workshop is the first step of a 2 part series that promotes a critical understanding of human rights discourse for all workers in the human services sector.
The series, led by international human rights expert, Mmaskepe Sejoe, covers key human rights concepts and how these apply to individuals, organisations and government in the real world.Â
Lead facilitator, Mmaskepe has extensive experience in the education of human rights in policing, mental health and child protection settings in Australia and will be supported by co-facilitator India who brings experience in youth justice, governance and continuous improvement.
The first workshop, the face-to-face session, aims to empower staff, equip them with a current and relevant understanding of human rights and responsibilities in practice, build skills on how to effectively negotiate human rights provisions in their day-to-day work personally and on behalf of the communities they serve, and provide mechanisms for integrating the standards in their work to protect and promote human rights.Â
This is an experiential training where participants will learn from the experiences across other states, and can bring their own experiences and case studies to the discussions.
The follow up online workshop, which will occur in January, will be an opportunity to reflect on the learnings from sessions and share further learnings the participants will experience as a result of the sessions.
By the end of the series, participants will have the capacity to use the Human Rights Framework processes, including human rights risk assessment, to assert accountability following current legislative and regulatory provisions.
RSVP by 5pm Mon 4th November.
Light lunch will be provided.
