Event description

In this two hour workshop you will: 

    Learn and understand the definition and scope of human trafficking: 

    • Define what human trafficking is and its various forms, including forced prostitution, sexual exploitation, and trafficking for the purpose of pornography production.

    Learn how to analyze root causes of human trafficking: 

    • Investigate the underlying factors contributing to human trafficking, such as poverty, gender inequality, discrimination, migration patterns, and cultural norms. 

    Observe and identify vulnerable populations: 

    • Recognize individuals and groups most at risk of being trafficked, such as women and children from marginalized communities, migrants, and LGBTQ+ individuals.

    Examine Trafficking Networks and Methods: 

    • Study the organizational structures of trafficking networks, recruitment tactics, transportation methods, and control mechanisms used by traffickers.

    Learn to identify and assess familial and intergenerational patterns of human trafficking related to family systems and how each generation can be affected.

      2 hours of Continuing education approved by MN Board of Marriage & Family Therapy and MN Board of Behavioral Health & Therapy

      Schedule Outline

      10:00 – 10:30 am Arrive, orient to space, Definitions of human trafficking and its forms

      10:30 – 11am Root causes of human trafficking: 

      • Investigate the underlying factors contributing to human trafficking, such as poverty, gender inequality, discrimination, migration patterns, and cultural norms. 
      • Recognize individuals and groups most at risk of being trafficked, such as women and children from marginalized communities, migrants, and LGBTQ+ individuals.

      11-11:15 am Break

      11:15 – 12pm Human Trafficking Networks and Methods: 

      • Study the organizational structures of trafficking networks, recruitment tactics, transportation methods, and control mechanisms used by traffickers.
      • Learn how to identify and assess familial and intergenerational patterns of human trafficking related to family systems and how each generation can be affected.
      • Learn what questions to ask for assessment purposes
