Finding and making Stories for Impact

Host: Mikey Leung, Co-creator, Digital Storytellers

Impact storytelling is a new field of practice that focuses on the good that's happening in the world, and supports it by creating stories for the online world. To get your positive impact stories seen and heard it's important to work on your storytelling strategy, plus also learn some key entry points for the digital storytelling tool you have in your hand -- your mobile phone.

In this practical hands-on session, Digital Storytellers will provide a short introduction to story craft (using the Digital Storytellers’ Story Canvas), and essential tips for mobile-device filmmaking (BYO devices and cameras welcome!). Participants will walk away with access to tools and recommendations they can apply in their digital storytelling channels straight away.

Mikey Leung, is a storyteller, entrepreneur and a Co-Creator at Digital Storytellers. Mikey brings with him over 15 years of study in the practice of digital wizardry. He has worked as a web designer, radio journalist and travel writer, before finally finding his spiritual home in the moving image. When he’s not behind the camera, he’s out advocating for impact storytelling and helping clients achieve their storytelling goals. He also does a killer rendition of ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ on guitar and vocals. He’s also serving at Social Enterprise Australia as the Network Lead, which sees him supporting the leading social enterprise development around the country.

What is Humming Sessions?

They are monthly lunch-and-learn sessions hosted for our team and our clients’ teams we all hum together even greater! It is hosted by Sponge over Zoom on the last Thursday of each month (excluding holidays), and we bring in an amazing guest speaker (like Annie!) to facilitate an important topic.
